Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Facility Project Honored as Public Works Project of the Year

PHOENIX, AZ (July 19, 2010) NYSE, TSX: STN 

The City of Nogales, Arizona’s International Wastewater Treatment Facility project was recently named one of the Public Works Projects of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA).   The project’s managing agency, the City of Nogales, along with primary contractor PCL Construction Inc., and primary consultant, Stantec Consulting Services Inc., will be presented with the award during APWA’s 2010 International Congress & Exposition in Boston, Massachusetts from August 15-18, 2010. 

The APWA Public Works Projects of the Year awards are presented annually to promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects, recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, contractor, consultant and their cooperative achievements. This year, APWA selected 18 projects in five categories: Disaster or Emergency Construction, Environment, Historical Restoration, Structures, and Transportation.

Engineers Week 2010: February 14-20, 2010

The National Society of Professional Engineers has designated Engineers Week 2010 from February 14 to February 20.  Engineers Week is an exciting time for engineers and scientists from across the country.  Engineers get involved with their communities via national, regional and local programs, carrying on a tradition that began in 1952.

This year, in a continuing effort to make this a valley-wide event, Engineers Week – Greater Phoenix Area will be organized by a committee of professional engineering and science organizations throughout the area.  We are planning several exciting events for E-Week 2010.

“E-Week Awards”
Awards are given to recognize engineers, students, educators and projects that have made outstanding contributions to the profession.  The awards celebrate and acknowledge the vital part engineers play in our complex world. Please nominate people and projects that deserve recognition.

“Legislative Lunch” on House Lawn of the State Capitol – Thursday, February 18th from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
Join your fellow engineers to network with legislators and emphasize the importance of engineering.  In conjunction with E-Week, the legislative luncheon will be hosted by ACEC Arizona, AzSCE and APWA Arizona Chapter.

“E-Week Hosted Awards Reception” at Sheraton Downtown PhoenixThursday, February 18th at 6pm.
The awards reception program will include the presentation of the E-Week awards and guest speaker. Business formal is the recommended attire for this event.

“Engineers Day” at the Arizona Science Center - Saturday, February 20th from 10am to 4pm.
The Center is the perfect venue for engineering societies, university students and industry representatives to set up events designed to excite and interest the visitors of all ages.  Past events have attracted large attendances.

ACEC of Arizona, APWA Arizona Chapter, and the SMPS Arizona Chapter is bringing an overview of the groundbreaking SMPS Foundation White Paper: “Social Networking for Competitive Advantage: How professional service firms differentiate themselves to win work, recruit, and retain talent.”

Attendees will gain insight from a summary overview of social networking practices and learn what other firms are doing based on results of a survey conducted in 2009.  The presenter will disucss various social media and implementation strategies that attendees will find useful to develop their own social networking programs.  Audience participation, dynamic discussion and sharing ideas will be highly encouraged.

Barbara has more than 25 years of experience in marketing, business development and sales.  She is Vice President, Marketing Director at Emc2 Group Architects Planners, PC, and Secretary/Treasurer for the SMPS National Board. In addition, Barbara co-authored the 2009 SMPS Foundation White Paper.
