In a previous post, I mentioned the Canstruction 2010 competition and the Call for Entries. Since some may be hesitant to take on the challenge of erecting a structure that measures 8′ x 8′ x 10′ high, I thought I would share a video of the process. Thanks to the ”People’s Choice” award-winning Arrington Watkins, Paragon Structural and Dibble Engineering team, you can get a glimpse into just what it takes to build one of these structures.
The Canstruction 2010 Kick-off Meeting is tonight at 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Downtown Phoenix is bustling with the twenty-some thousand people who have come from around the world to experience the 2009 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, enjoy the Valley’s great weather, and tour some of the greenest buildings in our state. The expo had a consistent crowd of people Wednesday walking the isles of the Phoenix Convention Center, checking out the latest green innovations, products and companies that 1,000 vendors were showcasing. The eco-friendly, bright orange conference bags that full-conference registered attendees were given speckled the expo.
Multiple recycling bins, a bookstore and Networking Garden were all among the greenness of the expo while conversations of green issues and technologies reverberated off the walls of Phoenix’s new green convention center Downtown. A first time attendee of Greenbuild, I was in awe of the multiple languages I heard at the expo, the discussions and how passionate and excited people were about sustainability. I even met an artist who uses recylced building materials to make art!
The Light Rail is also a hot topic, as visitors seek a simple, eco-friendly way to navigate around town. In fact, this was one of the reasons USGBC chose Phoenix as its 2009 host city!
I’m looking forward to hearing the stories of Greenbuild in the days to come and expect it to be a great success, showcasing the greatness of Phoenix to the world! Congrats to all of the Host Committee volunteers who have taken on this mammoth task and really put Phoenix in a great light…Your hard work has paid off!
